Originally from the historic city of Aigues-Mortes, in the heart of the French Camargue, Robert SIGNES has been painting ever since his childhood. While he studied for some time at the School of Fine Arts in Nimes, SIGNES is mainly a self-taught painter. Painting today exclusively with the palette knife Robert SIGNES creates his masterpieces with the skill and proficiency of an experienced artist.

Painting landscapes, often of his favorite subjects, including his native Camargue, his adopted home near the Cevennes mountains, and also Provence, SIGNES transcribes the nearest flower to the furthest mountain all with the edges of his trustworthy palette knife. Skillfully varying the thickness of the paint and boldly coating the canvas with planes of pure color while always remaining true to the perspective, SIGNES captures the beauty of
the countryside, his love of the land evident in the composition. The absent brushstrokes add to the allure of the paint itself and calls to mind a European decadence too tempting to refuse.
